About Wisdom Lingers

Wisdom Lingers is a Colorado based site focusing on local/state issues, legislative activities, and cultural happenings predominantly around the Northern Colorado area, but also the rest of the state, region, and country. We follow the principles of economic and personal liberty.

Calvin Coolidge was our 30th president said “knowledge comes, but wisdom lingers;” he was arguably the last true fiscal conservative to hold the office of President of the United States. When Coolidge confronted a receding economy, he cut both federal spending and the size and scope of the federal government, giving us the decade of prosperity commonly referred to the “Roaring Twenties.”

Juxtapose Coolidge’s recession response with that of the socialist-leaning FDR, who, when confronted with economic collapse, created massive government programs in his sprawling New Deal, extending the breadlines and Great Depression until well into the 1940s.

The lesson: When governments employ fiscal restraint and let markets work, markets, well…work; when governments employ Keynesian principles and meddle in markets, we all suffer.

Coloradans (all Americans) deserve to live under the principles of free markets, personal liberty and responsibility, a fair tax system, and non-infringing local, state and federal governments.

  1. A ‘slight’ problem: “Silent Cal” may have quoted it, but it was Alfred Lord Tennyson who originally “said” it. Now I’ll research it to ascertain where !
